Epic is the nation's leading provider of EHR systems holding records of more than 54 percent of patients in the United States. Regionally, Epic is used by hospitals and physicians that are part of the OneCare Collaborative network, which includes GGH, Deaconess Health System and Good Samaritan Hospital, Vincennes. Sharing the same EHR system improves communication, patient safety and quality of care by enabling physicians, nurses and other health care providers to access the same, up-to-date patient information across multiple locations.
"We are proud to be able to adopt the Epic EHR platform within our physician offices and clinics," said Emmett Schuster, GGH President & CEO. "As the leader in EHR systems, Epic has proven to increase productivity and efficiency for providers and staff, but more importantly we're looking forward to the impact it will have on the coordination of care for our patients."
In the near future, GGH will roll out MyChart, Epic's patient portal platform. MyChart will allow patients to access their medical record, keep track of healthcare services and appointments, view test results and even communicate with their physician.
Medical records of GGH physician patients are still available through the old patient portal, but the information will no longer be updated. Patients will be notified when MyChart is available.
